MOV files and their audio streams
One container, many codecs
MOV is Apple's QuickTime container. Its audio may be AAC, or it may be linear PCM if the file came out of a camera or a ProRes export. PCM audio needs no lossy decoding step, so a WAV export at the source rate and bit depth keeps the sample values intact.
Multiple audio tracks
Camera MOV files often carry more than one audio track, for example a camera mic pair plus a mixer feed. Check the channel count after extraction against what you expected on set.
Professional use cases
Filmmaking
Recover the scratch track from camera MOV files for syncing.
Post-production
Extract PCM audio from a ProRes master without a transcode.
Your audio stays on your device
Decoding, processing and export all run in your browser: compressed formats are decoded with the Web Audio API, and WAV, AIFF and MP3 files are written by JavaScript in the page. Your audio is never uploaded to our servers. Only anonymous page analytics and, if you sign in, your account and payment details go online.
Frequently asked questions
- Why convert MOV to WAV?
- MOV files from cameras and iPhones carry audio your editor may not read cleanly. Extracting a plain WAV gives you a file every DAW and NLE accepts.
- Does it work with ProRes MOV files?
- It works whenever your browser can decode the audio track. PCM and AAC audio inside MOV containers work; exotic codecs may not.
- Are my files uploaded?
- Never. Decoding happens in the browser tab, so confidential interview footage stays on your drive.
- Is it free?
- Your first conversion is free with just an email. After that it is €0.90 per conversion, or a single €19.90 payment for unlimited use for good.
