MKV to WAV

MKV to WAV Converter – Extract Matroska Audio Without Uploading

Matroska files are big, and uploading one to a web converter wastes an afternoon. Drop it here instead: the audio stream is decoded on your own machine and saved as a clean WAV, ready for sync or transcription.

Drop a video file

MP4, MOV, M4V, WEBM. The video stays untouched; audio is decoded locally

What this tool does for you

How it works

  1. 01. Drop the MKV

The container is parsed and the audio stream detected.

  2. 02. Pick WAV or AIFF

Uncompressed PCM, at the rate shown or one you pick.

  3. 03. Download

Straight into Resolve, Premiere or Pro Tools.

MKV extraction and codec support

Matroska is codec-agnostic

MKV can hold almost any audio codec: AAC, Vorbis, Opus, FLAC, AC-3, DTS. Browser extraction covers the codecs your browser can decode, which in practice means AAC, Opus, Vorbis and FLAC. Files carrying DTS or some AC-3 variants may not open.

When the file refuses to load

An MKV that fails is almost always a codec limitation, not a corrupt file. Remuxing to MP4 or transcoding the audio track elsewhere first is the usual route around it.

Professional use cases

Video editing

Get a usable audio track from an MKV that your NLE will not import.

Documentary

Recover audio from archive material distributed as Matroska.

Your audio stays on your device

Decoding, processing and export all run in your browser: compressed formats are decoded with the Web Audio API, and WAV, AIFF and MP3 files are written by JavaScript in the page. Your audio is never uploaded to our servers. Only anonymous page analytics and, if you sign in, your account and payment details go online.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get the audio out of an MKV file?
Drop the MKV above. The audio stream is decoded by your browser and written to an uncompressed PCM WAV. The decoded sample rate is shown before you export.
Which MKV audio codecs work?
AAC, MP3, Opus and Vorbis tracks decode in every modern browser. AC3, DTS and FLAC inside MKV depend on the codecs your browser exposes.
What if the MKV holds several language tracks?
The default track is extracted. For a specific language, demux that stream first, then drop the resulting file here.
Is anything uploaded?
No. Matroska files are often large; keeping the decode local means no upload wait and no copy on a server.
