WAV to AIFF

WAV to AIFF Converter – Same PCM, Different Container

Swap the container without touching the audio, provided you keep the source sample rate and bit depth. Handy when a Logic session, an older Final Cut project or a delivery spec asks for AIFF while everything you have is WAV.

What this tool does for you

How it works

  1. 01. Drop the WAV

Or an AIFF if you need the reverse.

  2. 02. Choose AIFF

Leave the rate and depth as they are for a straight swap.

  3. 03. Download

The same PCM, in the container your session wants.

WAV and AIFF: same audio, different envelope

Two containers for the same PCM

WAV comes from the RIFF family and stores its data little-endian; AIFF comes from Apple's IFF family and is traditionally big-endian. Both hold uncompressed linear PCM at identical quality. The choice is about what the receiving application expects, not about fidelity.

Where AIFF is still requested

Logic sessions, older Final Cut projects and some sample library formats prefer AIFF. Broadcast and film deliveries almost always specify Broadcast WAV, because of the bext timecode chunk.

Professional use cases

Music production

Deliver assets in the format a Logic-based studio asks for.

Post-production

Match a delivery spec that names AIFF explicitly.

Your audio stays on your device

Decoding, processing and export all run in your browser: compressed formats are decoded with the Web Audio API, and WAV, AIFF and MP3 files are written by JavaScript in the page. Your audio is never uploaded to our servers. Only anonymous page analytics and, if you sign in, your account and payment details go online.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between WAV and AIFF?
Both hold uncompressed PCM at the same quality. AIFF is the Apple container, historically preferred by Logic and older Final Cut workflows; WAV is the broadcast standard.
Is anything lost in the conversion?
Not if you leave the sample rate and bit depth on the source values: the samples are copied as-is and only the container changes. Lowering the bit depth or changing the rate is a real conversion, so only do it when the delivery asks for it.
Can I change the sample rate too?
Yes. Set the target sample rate and bit depth before exporting the AIFF.
Does it work the other way round?
Yes, drop an AIFF and export a WAV with the same tool.
