Trimming audio cleanly
Why cuts click
An edit that lands mid-waveform leaves a vertical step in the signal, and a step is a click. A short fade, a few milliseconds, ramps the edge to zero and removes it without audibly shortening the sample. Longer fades are for musical or ambient material where you want the entry to breathe.
What trimming does to your samples
Cutting a region from a WAV and exporting at the same rate and bit depth keeps the sample values of the selection intact, apart from the short fade applied at each edge to avoid clicks (5 ms by default, adjustable down to zero). Choosing MP3 output re-encodes, so keep an uncompressed master of anything you plan to process further.

Frequently asked questions
- How do I select the part I want to keep?
- Drag across the waveform to draw a region, then fine tune the in and out points with the mm:ss.ms fields. The selection is previewed in the player before you export.
- Which export formats are available?
- WAV, AIFF or MP3, at 44.1, 48, 88.2, 96, 176.4 or 192 kHz and 16, 24 or 32 bit. AIFF tops out at 24 bit, MP3 is 320 kbps.
- Does the cut click at the edges?
- A short fade in and fade out is applied at the cut points, 5 ms by default, adjustable from 0 to 500 ms.
- Does it work on multichannel files?
- Yes. Poly WAV and surround files keep every channel when you export to WAV or AIFF, with the source track names. MP3 is limited to stereo by the MPEG spec, so wider files are folded down for that format only.
- Are my files uploaded?
- No. The file is decoded and trimmed in your browser, nothing is sent to a server.
